Why don’t we list restaurants that serve shark fin?

Shark Fin Free Calgary (SFFC) has chosen to not publish our list of restaurants that serve shark fin soup or shark products because our mandate is to approach this issue through positive educational change and not with adversarial negativity that would result from publicizing restaurant names.

While SFFC does not support these restaurants, we do strongly believe that a by-law banning shark fin supported with additional education around this issue will allow us to save the most number of sharks in the fastest possible way.  Animosity between SFFC and business’s that sell shark fin of any kind will only delay success for our cause.

Many restaurants have their menu’s available publicly.  SFFC recommends that you check out the online menu or call prior to choosing to visit a particular restaurant and ask if they serve shark fin in any menu item prior to visiting the establishment.  If they do, please advise them respectfully and politely that you do not support any restaurant that still uses shark fins in their kitchen when there is a sustainable alternative available and you will  not be joining them for a meal as a result.
